Help Desk Tip Of The Week

Outlook Email App for IOS and Android Mobile Devices

As you probably have noticed, Stony Brook Medicine is actively taking steps to improve our cybersecurity posture.   This includes implementing solutions like Multi-Factor Authentication that protect our Organization’s Information Technology resources from malicious actors.

As a next step, SBMIT will be implementing a change that will require use of the Microsoft Outlook App to access Stony Brook Medicine email on a mobile device in the near future.  At that time, the built-in iPhone and Android email apps will not be able to access Stony Brook Medicine email on mobile devices.  As email is the most common vehicle for cybersecurity attacks, it is important that we use all available tools to protect our patients and organization, and the Microsoft Outlook app has tools which will help achieve our cybersecurity goals.

Rest assured, that the Microsoft Outlook Mobile App is an excellent platform and will integrate seamlessly with your devices.

To prevent interruption to your email access when this change is implemented, we suggest that all faculty, employees and staff who utilize a mobile device for to download and install the Microsoft Outlook App as soon as possible.  You can scan the barcode or click on the link below to download the app on your work or personal device.   (iOS is for Apple Devices and Android is for Google, Samsung, Motorola, OnePlus Devices…etc)

Creating Environments of Respect & Inclusion- Virtual Instructor Led Training classes (CERI VILT)
It is the aim of Stony Brook Medicine to create and sustain a community that values excellence and embraces the diversity of thought and experience of its patients, staff, and students.  We recognize that the barriers to achieving this aim are not always obvious.  This program has been developed to shine a light on implicit biases and begin a discussion that will increase our awareness of how these unconscious actions impact our patients and co-workers.

C.E.R.I. workshops are part of the campus journey to enhance our efforts at recognizing and celebrating the wonderful diversity which make up our community.

VILT is a live, online learning and development event where the instructor and participants are in separate locations and meet using an online collaboration platform like Zoom.  Unlike other forms of training you might complete on a computer, VILT is highly interactive.

Upcoming dates:
•          November 30, 2021, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Register through our HealthStream LMS (search keyword: CERI). Classes should be taken during employees’ work time, and supervisor approval is required to register.
