Help Desk Tip of the Week

Stony Brook Medicine Instructions for Working Remotely

As a result of a mandatory update to our Information Systems, we will implement a change to the Stony Brook Medicine Remote Access System on Friday, April 10, 2020.  At that time, the Stony Brook Medicine Remote Access System will be moving from https://mydesktop.uhmc.sunysb.edu to the following website: https://apps.stonybrookmedicine.edu

All Stony Brook Medicine Faculty, Staff and Employees that are working remotely should perform the following actions:

1. Ensure that your computers and devices are up-to-date.  If on Saturday, you can log into the new website: https://apps.stonybrookmedicine.edu remotely and perform your usual work functions, then no further action is necessary. If you cannot then follow the steps in the attached documents.

2. Change their favorites and shortcuts on their computer or device browser to point to the new website.

3. If you are currently using Citrix Receiver on an iPAD or mobile device to connect to the Remote Access System, you will need to delete the existing account from Citrix Receiver and then add an account using the new URL.  Please see attached documentation with instructions on how to install this update on your personal desktop/laptop or mobile device.

Did you know?  Many employees and staff do not need to use remote access to do their work functions remotely, this includes access to Cerner.  See below for direct links to useful resources:

Outlook Office 365 email: https://outlook.office365.com

Microsoft Teams: Download the application on any device:  https://teams.microsoft.com/downloads  (One-time only)

CERNER on PC or Mac: If you only need to access Cerner remotely use this link:  https://unvrny.cernerworks.com/Citrix/ProdWeb

Community Events / Notifications

Call for stories from healthcare workers and volunteers combating COVID!

We are creating a newsletter to highlight the efforts of the SB community as we combat the coronavirus. If you are a volunteer, a nurse, an attending, or anyone else in the SB Med community and you would like to share your experiences and stories, please email us at sbmedstories@gmail.com . You can either send us your story or let us know if you'd like to take some time to do an interview.

For our first issue, we'd like to focus on the diversity of people and initiatives that have been put together. From patient testing, to buying groceries for the elderly, to helping each other out in the hospital, please share a little bit of what you do or challenges that you have overcome.

If you have an opinion on a COVID-related topic, or general thoughts about how COVID is affecting you and the community that you would like to share, please send those as well.
