Instructions from the Network Services Department on obtaining a Network Connection for your equipment.
WHAT ARE NETWORK CONNECTIONS?
Network Jacks are what enable your computer to "connect" to other computers and internal and external computing resources; such as printers, E-mail, patient care systems, the Internet, and provide share drive access. The "Network" in simple terms, is made up of cabling and associated equipment that runs throughout the SUNY Stony Brook and Stony Brook Medicine Campus and beyond to the Internet. Our department has brought this network as close as your nearest communications closet in the Hospital, HSC, South Campus and Tech Park. The last part of this connection is made up of cables being run from this communications closet to a new jack installed near your computer, printer or other network ready device. Below you will find a summary of the types of jacks which can be requested and the process for ordering and installation of cabling and jacks.
PROCEDURE FOR ORDERING NETWORK CONNECTIONS
To order a new Network Connection please call the Help Desk at 444-4357 (HELP).
