Cisco AnyConnect (VPN)

If Citrix VDI or SecureLink are unable to provide a secure means of remote access for specific applications, then the alternative is to use Cisco AnyConnect VPN. This is available for both faculty/staff as well as support vendors. Support vendors will need to fill in a form and provide their drivers license as well as all required information for security purposes. The Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility VPN Client will need to be downloaded and installed on one's device, so the user will need to have proper administrator privileges and adjust their security software, access lists, and firewalls accordingly.

The Cisco AnyConnect VPN will allow secure access to the Stony Brook Medicine network resources from your home, hotel, etc., using your own internet service provider (i.e., Optimum Online, Verizon DSL/FiOS, etc.) However, this is NOT necessary if you are physically in one of the Stony Brook Medicine buildings (UH, HSC, BST, Pavillion, MART, ASC/ACP, Dental School, Tech Park, remote offices, etc.).

It works by installing a client on your computer and encrypting all the data sent from it to the Stony Brook Medicine campus. Some of the resources to which you will have secure access are as follows: Powerchart, SMS Invision, internal websites, server, network files, etc. All data passed over the Cisco AnyConnect VPN connection will be encrypted and secure to ensure the confidentiality and security of our patients and all patient-related information.
