Remote Access Policy

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL REMOTE ACCESS USERS:

Stony Brook Medicine Network Services cannot support remote access users' computers due to the many varieties of computer configurations and installed software. Common conflict issues include:

  • Operating Systems (versions and missing service packs, patches, etc.)
  • Spyware, adware, and other malware
  • Anti-malware applications (anti-spyware, anti-adware, etc.)
  • Anti-virus programs
  • Pop-up blockers (i.e. built-in or add-ons to web browsers, 3rd party software)
  • Java versions
  • Installed software
  • Network hardware and configuration (both wired and wireless)
  • Firewalls (both hardware and software)

As many of the items above can interfere with operation of remote desktops, it may be necessary to disable or remove these items in order to access the Stony Brook Medicine network remotely.
