Stony Brook Medicine Windows 10 Cisco AnyConnnect VPN Setup

*** Note: Do not use Internet Explorer 9 for this WebLaunch installer. Use Chrome or Firefox instead. ***

A. Add to Trusted Sites of Web Browser

  1. Launch Internet Explorer and click on Tools > Internet Options
  2. Click on the Security tab, click on the Trusted Sites zone, then click on the Sites button
  3. Type https://ciscovpn.stonybrookmedicine.edu in the field and click the Add button, then click the Close button.
  4. Once you're back in the Internet Options configuration window, click the OK button to close it.


B. Installation

  1. Launch your web browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc.) and go to https://ciscovpn.stonybrookmedicine.edu
    Enter your UHMC username and password on the login page and click on the Login button.
  2. Once successfully logged in, click the Continue button to proceed.
  3. The WebLaunch utility will detect your operating system and install the appropriate add-on/plug-in.
  4. When the information bar appears on the top of your browser, install the ActiveX Control by clicking on the information bar, then in the pop up window, click Install This Add-on for All Users.
  5. The User Account Control (UAC) will warn you that you are about to download an application to your computer. Allow this by clicking on the Yes button.
    At this time, your computer will be downloading the installer.
  6. The UAC will warn you that an application is about to be installed on your computer. Allow this by clicking on the Yes button.
    The AnyConnect VPN Client will now get installed on your computer.
  7. Once successfully installed, the AnyConnect VPN Client will initiate a VPN session.
    A VPN connection should be established shortly. Take a look at your task manager (lower right corner of your desktop) for the AnyConnect icon -- you can open or disconnect by right-clicking on this icon.

C. Using the AnyConnect VPN Client

  1. In the future, you will only need to launch the AnyConnect VPN Client to establish a VPN session from your computer. To do this, click on Start > All Programs > Cisco and then click on Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.
  2. The VPN client should show ciscovpn.stonybrookmedicine.edu -- enter that address if it is not pre-populated.
  3. Click Connect. Enter your UHMC username and password when prompted and click OK.
  4. Once successfully authenticated and connected, click on the Accept button to begin using the secure connection to your Stony Brook Medicine applications and resources.
  5. At any given time, should you wish to disconnect, simply right-click on the AnyConnect taskbar icon and select Disconnect.
